Many music lovers agree that discovering music that resonates with you is a personal and emotional experience. Music has that unique ability to evoke emotions, recall memories, and even shape our identities.
Being a collector of rare music involves a deep passion and dedication to the art form. It’s not just about listening to music or stumbling upon popular hits; it’s about finding those hidden gems that align with your tastes and experiences. But the question remains, in such a vast musical landscape: how to find the rare music that you like?
In this article, we will show you how to get better at finding music you like by improving your music discovery skills. Specifically, we will highlight how Revibed is the best online tool for your quest!
Finding music you like is an exploration
Rare music collectors and diggers often possess a keen sense of curiosity and a love for exploration. They seek out music that isn’t easily accessible, visit record stores, attend special music festivals, and join online music groups. They do whatever it takes!
This exploration is a significant part of the experience, offering a sense of adventure and discovery.
So, where do you start to find music that you like?
1. Begin with what you already enjoy: Make a list of your favourite artists, songs, and genres. This will serve as a foundation for exploring new music. By noticing trends in what you like, you can learn more about your preferences and find new things to try.
👍 Pros: Remember your music memories to express your taste and learn more about yourself. Be open to surprises during the process of reconnecting with your experiences.
👎 Cons: Getting stuck in a certain way of thinking can make it hard to see beyond what is right in front of you. Remember to reflect about what you know and question yourself!!
2. Embrace exploration: The process of finding new music starts with a willingness to step outside your comfort zone. This means diving into different genres, exploring lesser-known artists, and even revisiting old favourites with a fresh perspective. Don’t forget to turn to your peers for recommendations!
👍 Pros: Enjoy your music collection for free and bond with loved ones through the magic of music.
👎 Cons: Lack of guidance can lead to a time-consuming process — we know, finding music you like can sometimes be overwhelming.
3. Leverage the algorithms: Websites like YouTube and SoundCloud make it easy to find new music based on your listening preferences. They also host countless playlists and channels dedicated to specific genres and niches. Exploring these can lead to unexpected discoveries. For starters, have a look at Revibed’s Youtube and Soundcloud accounts.
👍 Pros: Tap into almost infinite resources for a limited cost. In the digital era, machine-learning music (streaming) platforms will consider your moods and preferred tastes to take you for a spin.
👎 Cons: Music algorithms prioritize popularity, which can drag you into a stagnated music loop.

Discovering these treasure troves of recommendations will not only expose you to new music, but also provide insights into the context and stories behind the tracks, deepening your appreciation for them.
To access these discussions, you can spend time in record stores or music festivals, but also participate in online communities such as forums, social media groups, and even subreddits dedicated to music genres or specific artists.
👍 Pros: Learning about the background, inspirations, and the cultural or historical context of a song can make the listening experience more enriching and enjoyable.
👎 Cons: With the vast amount of information shared in these communities, it can sometimes be overwhelming. There are so many recommendations and discussions about music that it can be hard to find the music you like.

Discover music related to your tastes on Revibed
Revibed is a platform dedicated to revive forgotten vibes from original artists
We’ve witnessed first-hand how, over the years, a lot of the older music we love has become extremely hard to find and/or costly to most people. On top of that, since much of this music was originally released on vinyl or cassette, these works are at risk of disappearing forever. So, in 2021, we set out to digitally preserve our global musical heritage and change the music industry for good.
The Revibed platform consists of two main parts:
The marketplace: An online music store where you can find a carefully curated selection of releases that were often never issued in a digital format before. Every week, more that 20 releases are added to the catalogue so you can keep discovering new music.
Here you have some of the recent additions to get you familiarized:
🚨 New Sun Pops Orchestra — Love Sound 2 (#jazz #Japan)
🚨 Doris — Gypsy Lady (#rock #UK #1982)
🚨 N.Y. Confidential — N.Y. Confidential (#hiphop #US #1989)
🚨 4 Play — Power Generation (#house #UK #1994)
The pre-order section: This is where you can start or join on-demand projects created by the Revibed community. With only 10 contributors needed, your pre-orders can be funded quickly, allowing you to enjoy a 6-month exclusivity period to elevate your DJ sets and music productions. After this period, the release will be added to the marketplace. Plus, you can earn €7.5 in cashback for every 4 successfully funded projects you join.
Check out these recent rare funding projects by the Revibed community:
