Today we’re having a look at an interesting blend of house & kwaito with the ‘’Mix to Groove’’ LP by Doctor House, bringing us 2 sides of slow house-beats combined with the traditional melodies of South Africa.
Kwaito is a musical genre that emerged in Johannesburg in the nineties, typically featuring deep bass lines, percussive loop samples, and vocals. It is a variant of house music that prominently features the use of African sounds and samples.
This album, a highly sought-after release among collectors of the genre, features 8 tracks, with ‘Sososo’, ‘Gunman’ and ‘Show Me Luv’ — yes, a kwaito-flavoured cover of the Robin S. classic! — being some of my personal favourites.
